So there was this "Email v. Twitter" thing over on 12seconds and people were rattling off all these reasons that email can never be improved upon. We'll see how many take my advice to try Vox, since I don't see a single feature lacking from their random list of real and perceived feature requirements.
Here in Vox, you get your wish of longer messages, if needed, attachments, distribution lists, private messages. Did we miss anything? I don't think so. ;-)
